DOVER-FOXCROFT (AP) — The trial of a Maine mother of 13 charged with trying to hire someone to kill her husband has started.

Forty-eight-year-old Wendy Farley of Brownville is charged with criminal solicitation for allegedly offering someone several thousand dollars to kill her husband of 30 years in September 2012.

She has been free on bail after pleading not guilty.

WABI-TV (http://bit.ly/1iJIE44) reported that jurors in Piscataquis County Superior Court on Thursday heard a recording made by a cooperating witness in which Farley says she wants to make her husband’s death look like a hunting accident. She also said she is having an affair.

Her defense lawyer said although she thought and talked about having her husband killed, she never actually followed through on it.

The trial is scheduled to continue Friday.
