1949 – 2014

SABATTUS — Leonard A. Machowski, 64, a resident of Marie Circle in Sabattus, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 19, at his residence.

He was born in Acushnet, Mass., on Nov. 19, 1949, the son of Zygmunt and Stacia (Blaczak) Machowski. He married his high school sweetheart, the former Rosemary Lawrence, on March 5, 1970. She always admired her husband as a kind, generous, hardworking man who never gave up. His attention to detail was second to none.

Leonard served 21 years in the U.S. Navy from 1969 to 1990. He also was a veteran of the Vietnam Conflict. After his naval career, Leonard worked at L.L. Bean and was a federal guard at the Brunswick Naval Air Station, until his retirement.

He was an avid outdoorsman and sportsman, who enjoyed fishing and following the Boston Bruins and NASCAR racing. He also enjoyed the simple pleasures of life, sitting on his back porch listening to and watching the birds, but his personal character was that he was most proud of his family, God and country.

Survivors include his wife, Rosemary, of Sabattus; three sons, Andrew Machowski of Sabattus, James and his wife, Audrey Machowski, of Wales and Paul Machowski, of Tucson, Ariz.; and one brother, Richard Machowski, of New Bedford, Mass.
