1956 – 2014

LEWISTON — Joseph “George” Sanipas Jr., 58, of Lisbon, passed away peacefully on Monday morning, March 17, at Central Maine Medical Center.

He was born in Caribou on Jan. 14, 1956, a son of Joseph G. Sanipas Sr. and Rita (Ruest) Sanipas. He grew up in the Waterville area and was a student at Fairfield High School. George really enjoyed the certified nursing assistant work he did. He worked in Waterville as a CNA for several years. His most recent CNA work was for the Odd Fellows Nursing Home. He worked various construction jobs through the years as well.

On July 25, 1998, he married Pam Pettengill in Canton. George was a member of the Elsipogtog First Nation and the Aroostook Micmac Native American Indians. He enjoyed drawing and painting, hands-on crafts, writing and reading poetry, playing video games and spending quality time with his family. He was also known as a really good cook.

He is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Pam, of Lisbon; his children, Trisha Cantrell and her husband, Cecil, of Oklahoma, Tonya Kinney and her husband, Dean, of Knox and Chet Sanipas and his wife, Marie, of Bangor; and his stepchildren, Mark and Abbie Pettengill of Lewiston, Matthew and Sara Pettengill of Gardiner and Marshall and Crystal Hiscock of Auburn. He also leaves behind his siblings, Norman Sanipas of Greene, Wayne Sanipas and his wife, Bridgett, of Unity, Carline Maroon and her husband, Mike, of Lisbon, Sandra Labbe and her husband, John, of Turner and Jeffrey Sanipas and his fiancée, April, of Lewiston; as well as 13 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father; two brothers, Eddie and Robert; and his sister, Carol.
