AUBURN — Anthony Cusumano of Salem Township has been presented with the 2014 Jason Spaulding Memorial Scholarship at Central Maine Community College. Cusumano has earned highest honors in the business administration and management program at CMCC.

This scholarship is awarded in memory of Jason Spaulding, who was a student in the electromechanical technology program at the college.

HUNTINGTON, Ind. — Kelly Gould of Dixfield is doing a practicum this semester with Parkview Huntington Hospital .

Gould is a senior children’s ministry major at Huntington University.

WATERVILLE — Shane Gallagher of Needham, Mass., a first-year student at Colby College, has recently returned from spending the fall semester of the 2013-14 academic year in Dijon, France, through Colby’s First-Semester Abroad program.

Gallagher, a graduate of Thayer Academy, is the son of Janet Gallagher of Needham, Mass., and Michael Gallagher of Newry.

CASTLETON, Vt. — Castleton College student Erin Luce of Kingfield has recently joined the Castleton College Mentoring Program.

The Castleton College volunteer mentoring program matches Castleton undergraduates with local fourth- and fifth-grade students from the Castleton Village School. During weekly informal meetings throughout the academic year, the college student role models provide social support and encouragement for the children to aspire to attend college.

CLINTON, N.Y. — Adelaide J. Fuller, daughter of Donald and Kimberly Fuller of Peru, and a first-year student at Hamilton College, is a member of Hamilton’s a capella group, The Hamiltones, that performed in New York City March 1-2 at New York University. The Hamiltones opened for the NYU a cappella group, Mass Transit, and performed four songs.

Fuller is a graduate of Dirigo High School.

FARMINGTON — Craig Detheridge recently participated in the Northeast Undergraduate Research and Development Symposium at the University of New England, Biddeford. The title of his presentation was “Inducing Relaxation via Virtual Reality/Binaural Beats,” with which he won the award of best oral presentation, third-place out of about 60 researchers.

Detheridge is a senior at the University of Maine at Farmington, pursuing a B.A. in business psychology. His research included using a homemade head-mounted display for virtual reality, and monitoring the EEG readings of participants. He found that he can successfully instill relaxation, among other positive emotions, while decreasing negative ones. He hopes to ultimately use this technology to reduce pain and instill relaxation and distraction in hospital patients, especially children.
