FARMINGTON — Sewer commissioners Tuesday approved a $960,359 budget that is $7,922 more than last year, Town Manager Richard Davis said.

The sewer rate will remain the same at $36.43 for 500 cubic feet and an additional $7.285 per 100 cubic feet after that, he said Wednesday. The rate stands for residential, rental and commercial properties.

In another matter, commissioners reverted to their selectmen positions to review a draft request to seek tax assessor services, Davis said.

Town assessor Mark Caldwell is retiring Dec. 31.

The board has the option to continue to employ a staff assessor or contract with an assessing firm to do the work, he said.

The proposal would allow the board to do a comparison to see what the town would get for services with either option.

According to the draft proposal, the town has approximately 7,760 residents. It has approximately 3,628 parcels with a taxable value of $461.96 million and approximately 500 personal-property accounts with a taxable value of $25.4 million.

Selectmen tabled action on the draft document until after a full board is elected June 10, Davis said.

The board is down one member because of Drew Hufnagel’s resignation. His resignation did not give the town enough time to meet the requirements to be on the ballot for the March town meeting.

Nomination papers are available at the Town Office to fill the remaining two years of Hufnagel’s term. Papers are due back by 5 p.m. April 30.
