Gov. Paul LePage and Mayor Bob Macdonald seem to be obsessed with the issue of welfare fraud. What I would like to know is how many cases of fraud have there been versus the total number of welfare cases? How many cases have actually been prosecuted?
If there are people on welfare who are able to be productively employed, why haven’t the case managers/investigators identified them and revoked their welfare? I have heard the comment that the case managers “visits” are predictable.
Gov. LePage lived on the streets because of an abusive home. Perhaps he could have benefited with the help of the Department of Health and Human Services.
If state agencies truly want to take care of all eligible citizens, then it is time to find out what is actually needed.
