LEWISTON — There’s a distinct, thick line between the haves and have-nots in Class A East boys’ lacrosse.

Right now, Lewiston is standing on it. The goal is to end the season in the high-rent surroundings to which the Blue Devils have become accustomed.

For the second time this soggy, slow-developing spring, Lewiston made a win look easy, rolling past Oxford Hills, 14-1, at Bates College.

The Blue Devils (2-2) also shut out Massabesic. On the flip side, they celebrated a few promising moments before falling to Messalonskee and Mt. Ararat.

“One-sided for us. (The schedule) varies, but that’s the way it goes,” Lewiston coach Ben Fournier said. “We have a young group. We have a few leaders on offense, but defensively we’re trying to figure out who’s going to step up and who’s going to lead the team back there. So far it’s wide open.”

Lewiston was solid from end-to-end against Oxford Hills (0-2).

Alex Mills scored four goals, all in the second half, and Griffin Wade added three. Pat Racine registered two goals and assists.

Max Bolduc, Quintarian Brown, Ty Murphy, Brendon Croteau and Roman Dennis each found the net, with Bolduc furnishing three assists.

Zack Paquette made four saves for the Devils, threatening to serve up the second goose egg of the season until Kelton Loper broke it up with 2:20 remaining.

It was scoreless nearly 10 minutes into the game, and Lewiston required Wade’s pair of goals and his setup of Racine to make it 3-0 at halftime despite a 24-3 advantage on the shot chart.

“We just needed a couple goals early to keep us in it, keep our spirits high, keep the extra motivation alive,” Oxford Hills coach Matt Brunsen said.

The third quarter belonged to Lewiston, which scored on seven of its first eight shots and eight times in all.

It started innocently with Mills’ first goal, courtesy of Jacob Kendall. Racine’s second goal of the day started a run of six in a span of 4:17.

“You get one and it’s just a domino effect and kind of keeps on rolling,” Fournier said. “We hadn’t had that happen yet, so it was nice this game to get that going a little bit and get a good momentum.”

Griffin Morin, Ethan Melvin, Sabin Lavorgna, Reilly Bolduc, Dennis and Murphy dominated defensively for Lewiston.

Ty Wyman, Andrew Hatch and Joshua Simmons were stingy and physical for the Vikings in front of goalie Zach Rideout, who made nine stops.

“First half we played fine. Defensively we were pretty good. In transition, we made a couple of mistakes. We were punished on one and got away with the other one,” Brunsen said. “If you’re in your defensive half for the whole half and then you get the ball in your offensive third and just cough away possession, eventually it’s going to come back and bite you, which it did.”

Lewiston has almost a full week off to prepare for Cony.

A win there, and the Devils undoubtedly would put themselves in the conversation as being part of that upper echelon again this season.

“We tried to work on our systems. I think the guys understood that in the second half more, and we started to roll there a little bit,” Fournier said. “We’ve got a couple of big games. We’ve got to do some prep, for sure.”
