1959 – 2014

LEWISTON — Thomas Peter Provencher, 55, died unexpectedly of an illness overnight Friday, May 2, in his home.

He was born April 25, 1959, in Lewiston to Ernest and Rolande Provencher of Greene. He graduated from Lewiston High School in 1977.

Tom worked several jobs in the Lewiston-Auburn area, including Pioneer Plastics, Advanced Collection Services, Sun Journal and Support Solutions in Lewiston. He especially was proud of his job as a direct support provider at Support Solutions where he is remembered for his dependability and boyish grin. Being a caregiver was important to him. Helping people was his mission.

Tom also was a volunteer in the past at the Murphy Homes, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and a Talking Book reader at the Lewiston Public Library.

He loved a wide variety music—listening to it, learning about it and talking about it. Tom had a real talent for drawing. And he had a love of art. He took in as many of the Friday Art Walks as his work schedule would allow. His family always could count on him to keep a conversation going on just about any subject. Tom’s dry sense of humor will be missed.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by three brothers, Mick Provencher and his wife, Denise, of Needham, Massacheusetts, Paul Provencher and his wife, Lori, of Sabattus, and David Provencher and his wife, Kim, of Lewiston; three sisters, Diane Chasse of Auburn, Pat Provencher of Lewiston, and Elaine Natale and her husband, Carl, of Turner; and 11 nephews and nieces.
