1929 – 2014

Thelma May (Cross) Davis, 84, passed away peacefully on May 15, 2014 at the Clover Nursing Home in Auburn. Thelma was born on May 30, 1929 in Morrill, Maine the daughter of the late Hovey and Edith (Bryant) Cross. Growing up in Morrill Thelma attended local schools and was a graduate of Crosby High School in Belfast, ME with the class of 1946.

In 1951 she married the love of her life Vaughn Davis. The couple would settle in Union, Maine where they would spend their married years together. Thelma was a hard worker and had experience in a variety of different fields. She spent time working for the FW Gordon and Son store in Union as well as Moody’s Nursing Home and Wellman’s Boarding Home. Thelma was very proud of her own business as an Avon representative, a position she held for over 35 years.

In her spare time she enjoyed camping, boating, gardening, fishing, and in the winter months snowmobiling. Thelma led an active lifestyle and always kept herself busy. One accomplishment she was proud of was that she had hiked all the way to the top of Mt. Katahdin. She loved being at her home in Union and spending time in her vegetable and flower gardens. She had bird feeders up all over the place and in her later years had feeders attached to the windows of her home so she could still see the birds even when she was unable to get outside. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Thelma enjoyed spending time with her granddaughters and was always there to support them in their various activities. Thelma traveled throughout the state with her granddaughters for various meetings of the International Order of the Rainbow for Girls, to visiting the fairs and other activities with her granddaughters who were involved with the local 4H club. She was a member of the Peru snowmobile club and was a longtime supporter and attended the People’s United Methodist Church in Union.

She was predeceased by her loving husband Vaughn Davis, an infant son Glendon Vaughn Davis, and a sister Dorothy Rooney.
