1935 – 2014

LEWISTON — Richard W. St. Hilaire, 79, of Lewiston and Sarasota, Fla., died Saturday, May 24, at Central Maine Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Lewiston on March 11, 1935, a son of the late William and Dorothy St. Hilaire. He was educated in local schools and graduated from Lewiston High School.

Richard had been in the roofing industry all his life, starting out as a young man working for the family business and later becoming the founder of Industrial Roofing Co. It did not take long for him to build this company into a very successful business, because of his great work ethic and willingness to do the job right.

Richard was a member of Rotary, the Chamber of Commerce and was on the board of directors at St. Joseph’s College. Richard enjoyed spending time on his boat, spending time with his grandchildren — especially when they visited him in Florida — riding his motorcycle in his younger years and golfing. He got great joy out of giving to his family.

He leaves his five children, Rick St. Hilaire and his wife, Diane, of Turner, John St. Hilaire and wife, Noelle, of Freeport, Jeffrey St. Hilaire of Wales, Sharon Michaud and her husband, Anthony, of Saco and Carol Chabot and husband, Shawn, of Lewiston; three sisters, Joan Morin and husband, Ray, of Lewiston, Joline Pelletier and husband, Leo, of Auburn and Judy Lavigne and husband, Gerry, of Naples, Fla.; a sister-in-law, Helen St. Hilaire, of Lewiston; 15 grandchildren, Sara, Samantha, Amanda, Chrissy, Jennifer, Chris, Nick, Anthony, CJ, Lucas, Julia, Emma, Alex, Tori and Shawn Michael; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother, Dennis St. Hilaire.
