LEWISTON — La Rencontre will meet at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, June 12, at the Franco Center, 46 Cedar St. The center will serve chicken cacciatore with ziti, salad, Italian bread and chocolate cake. The cost of the meal is $8 a person.
After the meal, Linda Pouliot will bring a cabaret-style performance of songs and American music to the stage.
Popular singer and Berlin native, Pouliot will be accompanied by one of the seacoast area’s best jazz musicians, Charlie Jennison, on piano. They will present a diverse cabaret-style show of jazz, blues and popular songs.
Because of Pouliot’s French heritage, her song repertoire includes songs by Edith Piaf, Josephine Baker, Lucienne Delisle and Madeleine Peyroux.
“Every time I perform, there are more and more requests for the beautiful French songs by the artists I love, and in the language that so richly influences my life. It is an honor to be invited to the beautiful venue. C’est mon plaisir de chate’ pour les amis de Franco Center,” said Pouliot
Jennison, Seacoast Jazz Society president and New Hampshire-based multi-instrumentalist, began his jazz career in 1961. The defining moment in Jennison’s career came when he met pianist Tom Gallant, a teacher at the Berklee School of Music and an alumnus of Woody Herman’s band. Jennison played with Gallant for more than 30 years. He has also shared the stage or recording studio with such notable jazz musicians as Dizzy Gillespie, Buddy DeFranco, Alan Dawson and Marshal Royal.
Doors will open at 10 a.m. La Rencontre is not restricted to French-speakers or even those of Franco descent. All are welcome.
