JAY — Police said a local couple were injured Wednesday afternoon when their car and a van hauling a utility trailer collided at Bean’s Corner at routes 133 and 156.

Sylvia Richards, 73, of Jay was driving south on Route 133 toward Livermore Falls when a van driven by Marc Parent, 56, of Becancour, Quebec, on Route 156 failed to stop at the stop sign, Jay police officer Russell Adams said Thursday. Parent was coming from Chesterville toward Wilton.

Witnesses said the 2008 Mercury driven by Richards rolled over, Adams said.

Richards and her husband, Reginald Richards, 78, were taken by NorthStar EMS ambulance to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington with injuries that were not life-threatening, Adams said.

Parent was checked at the scene but refused to go by ambulance to a hospital, Adams said.

The van is owned by P.H. Vitres D’Autos & Co. Inc. of Sainte-Perpetue, Quebec, Adams said.
