WILTON — Officials are seeking a contractor to clean the yard of an Adams Street homeowner who has failed to obey a court order to get rid of the appliances, scrap and motor vehicles littering his lawn.
The Board of Selectmen gave Duane Pollis until May 30 to clear his yard of debris. The town will send Pollis a bill when the job is done.
Pollis was convicted of violating state and local laws. He was the first person to be fined for violating a property maintenance ordinance narrowly passed last year, which allows a minimum fine of $100 per day for violations. Pollis faces fines of $9,500.
Pollis told the Kennebec Journal there is a purpose for everything in his yard, so he shouldn’t be obligated to clean it up. He said he can’t afford the cleanup and the town is picking on him.
- Duane Pollis’ yard is shown in October 2013 when she was given until May 30, 2014, to clean up his Adams Street yard in Wilton or face a daily fine and court action from the town.
