ROCKLAND — On Saturday, June 14, at 1 p.m., the Farnsworth Art Museum will present a special lecture by Brother Arnold Hadd titled “We Will Sustain the Structure.” The fee for this lecture, on the opening day of the Farnsworth’s major 2014 exhibition “The Shakers: From Mount Lebanon to the World,” is $5 for members and $12 for nonmembers, which includes admission to the museum.

Seating will be on a first come, first served basis, and is limited to the first 60 attendees.

Hadd has been a member of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Community in New Gloucester for 36 years and serves his community as farmer, printer, historian, elder and trustee. He is widely recognized for his comprehensive knowledge of the Shakers in Maine. He will speak about the history of the Shakers and Shakerism.

Drawn primarily from the collection of The Shaker Museum | Mount Lebanon, the largest, broadest and deepest collection of Shaker material in the world, the exhibition will present a comprehensive look at the religious, social and economic foundations of Shaker life, seen through Shaker-made objects.

While the show is a historical overview seen through objects from Mount Lebanon, the spiritual and administrative center of the Shaker world, it importantly also includes a section on the Shakers at Sabbathday Lake, the last active Shaker community.
