BANGOR — Police on Friday afternoon arrested a local man in connection with a stabbing Thursday night on Warren Street in Bangor.

Anthony Bowie, 24, of Bangor is charged with elevated aggravated assault, according to a news release issued by Bangor Police.

The 25-year-old male victim was stabbed at the junction of Warren and Sanford streets late Thursday night and remains at the hospital in serious condition, Bangor police Sgt. Tim Cotton said before Bowie’s arrest.

“There was an altercation between these two individuals” and one man was stabbed, Cotton said. “Both individuals are from the Bangor area.”

The stabbing took place at about 10:40 p.m. and the man was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center. Cotton did not describe the victim’s injuries but said “the person is seriously injured.”

Police have not released the name of the victim.

Police investigators talked to witnesses and they believe this is an isolated incident, Cotton said.

Cotton said that no further information would be released Friday.

Bowie, who is well known to Bangor police, is expected to appear before a judge at the Penobscot Judicial Center on Monday. His criminal record, which includes misdemeanor convictions for criminal mischief, disorderly conduct and domestic violence assault, dates back to 2009 when he was 19, according to the Bangor Daily News archives.

He was charged with criminal mischief and two counts of domestic assault in February 2011 after he allegedly stubbed out a cigarette on the face of one woman and punched another in the mouth. Information on how those charges were resolved was not available late Friday.

If convicted of elevated aggravated assault in connection with Thursday’s stabbing, Bowie could face up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000.
