Interested residents are being sought to join the Orono Active Communities Environment Team and help the integrate physical activity opportunities into community planning, transportation and land use decisions.
Active community environments are places where people of all ages and abilities have the opportunity to live, work and play in a safe and inviting place which enables physically active recreation and transportation, particularly walking and biking. People who live in walkable communities are twice as likely to get physical activity as those who don’t, and data indicates that for every $1 spent on trails, $3 in direct medical costs is saved.
