Howe’s Great London Shows exhibited in Lewiston Monday on the old circus ground at Sabatis street and Central avenue. The circus train of 21 cars, each 70 feet in length, arrived in Lewiston Sunday morning shortly after three o’clock. A street parade preceded the show. It started from the grounds promptly at 10 o’clock. A feature of the parade was the chariot drawn by four camels, and the herd of elephants, together with the attractive looking riders.

(PHOTO CAPTION) The walls of the Littleton Hotel on Main Street, Lewiston, came tumbling down. The once busy hotel is nearing the end. The five-story building was originally the Lincoln Boarding Block and later it was the Atwood Hotel. Once the building is down, the land, owned by the Central Maine Power Company, will be leveled and a parking lot will be constructed on the site.

Much of Lisbon’s Moxie Festival now has little to do with the gentian-flavored soft drink. It’s an opportunity for the Chamber of Commerce to sponsor a mid-summer frolic, with a parade, street entertainers, bands, a barbecue and other community-oriented events. The draw for outsiders, however, is a swap meet for collectors of Moxie memorabilia, which attracts enthusiasts from as far as California. Festival founder Frank Anicetti traces the roots of the event to a book-signing party he held in 1983 for Frank N. Roller, author of “The Moxie Mystique.” “It just sort of grew,” Anicetti said. “In 1985 the firemen added their muster, then the next year the chamber came in with their parade. This year should be the biggest yet, lots of great events.”
