Presentation on saving birds

BRUNSWICK — “Living in the Wind: Exploring Bird Migration and Simple Ways to Save Birds” will be presented by Scott Weidensaul from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Friday, July 18, at the Morrell Meeting Room at Curtis Memorial Library. People can arrive anytime after 6 p.m.

Naturalist and author Weidensaul will explore the wonder and mechanics of migration, and the simple, effective ways we can help save birds, from what we plant in our gardens to what we pour into our morning mug of coffee.

Welcome home for Jim Rancourt

SABATTUS — American Legion Post 135 will welcome home Master Sgt. Jim Rancourt on Saturday, July 19.

A spaghetti supper will take place from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $2 for ages 10 and under.

A dance will follow at 6:30 p.m. with music by Maine Connection, with DJ Ray Asselin and vocals by Linda Hussey and guests.

Admission is free.

Dental health program at PAL Center

AUBURN — On July 21-24, Center Street Dental will run a dental health program for children at the Auburn Police Activities League Center.

The program will run for one hour each day and will focus on a variety of dental health topics. It will incorporate fun and interactive activities into the program including an educational puppet show at the end of the week. To encourage kids to practice healthy brushing and flossing at home, Center Street Dental will also pass out dental health goody bags.

The Auburn PAL Center at 24 Chestnut St. provides educational and athletic activities for kids after school and during the summer and promotes positive interaction with police officers. The PAL Center is a “drop-in” center and is staffed with screened volunteers and mentors.

MONMOUTH — Monmouth Museum, Main Street, is open for tours from 1 to 4 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday from May through September.

Bean, ham supper at Lisbon Methodist

LISBON — A home-baked bean and ham supper will take place from 5 to 6 p.m. Saturday, July 26, at Lisbon United Methodist Church, 14 School St.

Cost is $7 for adults, $3 for ages 6-12 and free for 5 and under.

The supper is hosted by the Methodist Women.

Leavitt Youth Soccer Camp

TURNER — The popular Leavitt Youth Soccer Camp is back the week of July 28 presented by MSAD 52 Adult & Community Education.

Boys and girls in grades K-6 will learn about soccer in a fun and encouraging way from the Leavitt Area High School girls soccer team.

Amvets flea market offers tables

NEW GLOUCESTER — A flea market will be held at Lunn-Hunnewell Amvets Post 6 on Route 100 (across from Hodgman’s Frozen Custard)  from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.

Proceeds of the white elephant table will benefit the group’s service projects, including the New Gloucester Memorial Monument. The bake table will benefit the scholarship program. There will be many tables and lots to see.
