Bethel Senior Citizens plan picnic

BETHEL — The Bethel Senior Citizens Club will meet for a picnic at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, at the Stony Brook Camping Area in Hanover.

Hamburgers and hot dogs will be furnished. Members should bring either a salad or dessert to share.

Reservations must be made before Friday, Aug. 1, by calling Arlene Lowell at 824-2877.

Thompson Lake meeting scheduled

OTISFIELD — Thompson Lake Environmental Association annual meeting will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, at the Recreation Hall, corner of King Street and Route 121 (the green building).

There is plenty of parking and lots of information and a selection of Thompson Lake T-shirts, sweatshirts and bags.

Featured speakers will include Keith Young of the Maine Forest Service, who will report on this summer’s FireWise LakeSmart Program, and Scott Williams, the lake biologist, who has tested and analyzed the lake water for many years and who reports annually on the health of the lake.

A number of new directors will be nominated as well, but the list is not yet final.

Pairs qualifying round results

LEWISTON — The Lewiston Bridge Club winners of the North American Pairs qualifying round at the Lewiston Armory on July 21 were as follows:

First, Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; second, Rosemarie Goodwin and Les Buzzell; third, Richard Balian and Luke Merry; fourth, Cynthia and Bill Clifford.

Winners of the regular club game on July 22 were: first, Patricia Quinn and Richard Balian; second, Bailey Geeslin and Nick Karamessinis; third, Jan and Vern Arey; fourth, Paul Sherman and Mike True; fifth, Tom and Rosemarie Goodwin.

First in B, Bailey Geeslin and Nick Karamessinis; second/third tie, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe with Marta Clements and Nancy Farmer; first in C, Larry Fortier and Roger Labbe; second, Cindy and Bob Kirchherr.

Games are played at 9 a.m. every Monday and Tuesday in the Seniors’ Room at the Lewiston Armory, 65 Central Ave. A partner is guaranteed and all bridge players are welcome. Call Rosemarie at 754-1431 for more information.
