STRATTON —  The Dead River Area Historical Society will hold a program, “Remembers Stratton Manufacturing,” hosted by John Kelley from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2.

Kelly’s father, John Kelley, was manager of the mill for many years and he will share memories of the “old days” when the mill was the main employment in town.

They made croquet sets, rolling pins, tool handles and more. Kelly will share the information as well as explain what the mill exhibit is all about.

Wayne (Buddy) Fletcher will also tell stories to tell of when he worked in the mill. Anyone who worked in the mill or knows someone who did is asked to attend and share their stories.

On display in the museum are artifacts, manuscripts, and photographs donated or loaned by townspeople and descendants of original families of the Dead River Region. Collections from 1850 on include old carpentry and logging tools, china, glass, church organ, furniture from native families, a complete schoolroom, a memorial room to the “lost” towns of Flagstaff and Dead River, the lineage of several native families, and a host of memorabilia from native homesteads.

The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information, call 246-2271.
