LEWISTON — The Maine Department of Transportation will begin an 11-week construction project on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge between Auburn and Lewiston on Monday, Aug. 4.
According to a news release from the Lewiston Public Works Department, the project involves milling the pavement and installing asphalt shim and surface paving on the Lewiston- and Auburn-bound lanes.
Milling of the pavement is expected to begin Sunday, Aug 17.
During construction, continuous traffic will be allowed across the bridge and ramp closures will be allowed only from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The project requires the replacement of a storm drain on the Lewiston-bound side. This work will be done at night and will require the Lewiston-bound lanes to be closed to traffic for one or two nights.
When those lanes are closed, the Auburn-bound lanes will carry two-way traffic to maintain travel across the bridge.
The project completion date is Oct. 18.
