WAYNE — An evening of poetry featuring Gwen Heath and Claire Hersom will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 8, at the Cary Memorial Library, 17 Old Winthrop Road.

Heath is a poet and artist who lives in the Farmington area. For the past five years she has deeply moved everyone who has heard her perform at Tri-County Mental Health Services’ annual Inspired Voices concert at The Franco-American Center in Lewiston. She is an advocate for people who live with mental illness and is the current chair person of the Local Farmington Consumer Council.

She is also founder of “GO” which stands for “getting out,” a group of peers who support each other in the community.

Hersom lives in Winthrop with her dog and cats. Her emotionally powerful book, “Drowning: A Poetic Memoir,” published in 2008, uses humor, honesty and compassion to explore the world she knew while raising three children on the edge of poverty. In 2011, Claire was awarded an Emerging Artist Grant in Literature from the St. Botolph Club Foundation of Boston. She is currently on the Board of Directors for Maine Equal Justice Partners. Claire is a proud grandmother as well as a warm and engaging speaker.

The reading is free and all listeners are welcome. For information, call 685-3612.
