- After challenging Peru and East Dixfield fire departments to do the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge late Saturday morning during the Dixfield Outdoor Market, Dixfield firefighters dumped icy water over their heads to the amusement of several onlookers. Fire Chief Scott Dennett said firefighters donated several dollars apiece, which will accompany many donations to the ALS Association. According to a Sunday news release from the association, it has received $13.3 million in donations since the Ice Bucket Challenge was launched, compared to $1.7 million during the same time period last year (July 29 to Aug. 17).
- Ethan Egdall, 6, of Jay, tries out his putting skills on Saturday morning during the Dixfield Outdoor Market along Main Street. The Dirigo High School Class of 2015 ran carnival-type games that were quite popular with small children, including a bounce house. “It was hard, but I thought it was good,” Egdall said, admitting that he needs much, much more practice.
- Overcast skies threatening rain following a rainy morning likely kept large crowds away from Saturday’s annual Dixfield Outdoor Market. Vendors and local organizations lining Main Street and off-street parking lots sold yard-sale items, food, antiques and crafts. Additionally, the Dixfield Congregational Church hosted its annual quilt show.
