MONTICELLO — Three people were injured in a collision Sunday evening on Route 1, according to a news release from the Maine State Police.
Police say Josiah Nash, 27, of Blaine, was traveling south on Route 1 in a 1965 Volkswagon dune buggy about 6:30 p.m. when he was struck by Barbara Watson, 71, of Monticello, who was making a left turn from the northbound lane onto Silver Street.
Nash and his 29-year-old passenger, Adam Grant of Bridgewater, were ejected from the Volkswagen, police said. All three were injured and brought to Houlton Regional Hospital for treatment.
Grant and Nash subsequently were transferred Sunday evening to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor in stable condition, Cynthia Thompson, Houlton Regional Hospital spokeswoman, said Monday.
On Monday, Nash was listed in fair condition at EMMC, according to Andy Saucier, hospital senior communications specialist. No information was available on Grant.
Both the Volkswagen and Watson’s 2002 Ford Taurus were heavily damaged. The crash is under investigation.
State Trooper Jillian Monahan investigated the crash and was assisted at the scene by Maine State Police, the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, U.S. Border Patrol and the Monticello Fire Department.
