MEXICO — The Mexico Water District board of trustees has announced the district office has recently been set up to accept credit card payments from customers when paying their water utility bills.

The Mexico Water District has entered into a service level agreement with InforME, which proposes to work with the district to provide access to the PayPort service that will allow authorized water district office employees to accept Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express credit card payments over-the-counter for water utility bills and other products or services for which the Mexico Water District collects payments.

InforME’s PayPort interface is a web-based service, hosted at the InforME data center in Augusta, designed to take payments via credit cards.

Customer wishing to pay their water bills using their credit card will be charged a transaction/service fee of $1 on principal payments up to and including $40.

Any amount over $40 will be assessed a transaction/service fee of 2.5 percent of the principal payment amount. The water district will receive the principal amount paid with the service fee paid to InforME.

The board has been researching the use of credit cards to pay water utility bills for some time and believes that participating in the InforME PayPort system will be a convenient way for Mexico Water District customers to pay their water utility bill either in person at the water district or by telephone.

Customers who have questions regarding the new service should contact the district office at 364-2061.
