AUBURN — The Maine Iris Society is holding its annual fall auction on Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the United Methodist Church, 439 Park Ave. It will begin at 7 p.m. Bidders will want to arrive a few minutes early to register and to see what will be auctioned. The general public is invited to participate.
The focus of this auction is Siberian irises and day lilies grown in members’ gardens where they have thrived and multiplied. Hostas will also be available, and there may even be some peonies. A donation of gardening books is expected to supplement this auction.
Several lucky attendees will go home with a door prize. This year several day lilies have been prepared for the winners in the door prize drawing.
The Maine Iris Society is affiliated with the American Iris Society. Members enjoy gardening. They promote irises by holding flower shows in the spring, informative lectures in the winter and auctions and a member-only swap day during the growing season. Membership information will be available at the auction.
