FRYEBURG — Acting police Chief Joshua Potvin has been appointed chief.
The announcement was made by Town Manager Sharon Jackson during a selectmen meeting Thursday evening.
Potvin took the oath of office as family, friends, co-workers, other law enforcement officials and members of the community filled the meeting room and hallway a the Town Office. He has been the acting chief since April.
In a statement released following the appointment, Potvin said, “Although 9/11 was a day of celebration for my family and I, we have not forgotten those who lost their lives 13 years ago on this day.”
He said he was honored to be appointed chief of police “of such a generous community.”
He would not take the responsibility lightly, he said. “I am dedicated to promoting a safer environment and raising the quality of life for the citizens of Fryeburg and those visiting our town.”
Jackson said the lengthy screening process was conducted by the Tideview Group. Officials said Potvin was selected from among 37 applicants from across the country.
