NORRIDGEWOCK (AP) — A Norridgewock woman faces eviction from her home for allowing her daughter’s service dog to visit the house for five days in August in what her landlord says was a violation of the lease.
Dawn Zammuto has filed a complaint with the state Human Rights Commission over the eviction. According to Maine state law, people with service dogs cannot be discriminated against in housing accommodations.
Zammuto is scheduled to appear in court in Skowhegan on Friday to fight the eviction order.
A lawyer for the home’s owners told the Morning Sentinel (http://bit.ly/1wHfwCG) that Zammuto’s lease clearly says no pets are allowed.
The attorney says other tenants of the three-unit mobile home community complained and said they wanted pets too.
Zammuto’s daughter has conversion disorder.
