FARMINGTON — Nickel bingo will be played every Monday at the Farmington Elks Lodge.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m. Games start at 6 p.m.

Forty games will be offered.

Passport Dinners begin Sept. 26

EAST WILTON — A new year of Passport Dinners begins at 6 p.m., Sept. 26, at the Grange Hall.

This month’s theme is the harvest with lots of locally grown vegetables served along with a baked ham.

WILTON — The Wilton Area Food Pantry will be open Saturday, Sept. 27, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., for Wilton residents who need to apply for food. Bring proof of residence.

Reception for Betsy Connor Bowen

WAYNE — A reception for Betsy Connor Bowen will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 28, at the Williams House, 14 Old Winthrop Road. The event is sponsored by the Cary Memorial Library

Meet local author Bowen, who will introduce her new book, a biography of her father, “Croswell Bowen: A Writer’s Life, A Daughter’s Portrait.”

Croswell Bowen was a journalist who wrote about the 1929 Wall Street crash, the Great Depression, WWII, McCarthy, JFK and Vietnam, always with the “certainty that finding the right stories and telling them with the right words could create a better world.”

Betsy is the author of “Spring Bear,” and the editor of her father’s memoir, “Back From Tobruk.” She has worked as a community organizer, teacher, financial analyst, journalist and filmmaker. A reception featuring wine and light refreshments will follow the presentation.

Hunter safety course in October

FARMINGTON — A hunter safety course will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. on Oct. 2, 14 and 16.

Preregister at Wilton Fish & Game at 6 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29.

Cost is $5 and enrollment is limited.
