Newry residents voted 82-60 Wednesday to form a school withdrawal committee to craft a plan for the town to potentially withdraw from SAD 44, according to Town Administrator Loretta Powers. As part of the approval vote, residents also okayed spending up to $50,000 to create the withdrawal plan, which would include both an educational plan and financial negotiations with SAD 44. The town will vote at a future date on whether to actually withdraw from the school district. A 2/3 majority would be required.
