Ski and sport shops throughout Maine are pitching in to help the Ski Museum of Maine promote awareness of Maine’s skiing history and raise funds for the Ski Museum’s projects. Nine shops including Ski Depot in Newry and Jay, Carter’s X-C Ski Shop in Bethel and Oxford, Bethel Nordic Center, True North Adventureware in Bethel, Nomad Adventures & Active Wear in Portland, Northern Lights in Farmington, Kittery Trading Post, Auclair Cycle & Ski in Augusta and Ski Rack Sports in Bangor have donated gift certificates totaling over $1,000 for a winter raffle. The prize drawing will be held on Jan. 1, at Carter’s Cross Country Ski Center in Bethel. Raffle tickets are available for purchase on the Ski Museum’s website at www.skimuseumofmaine.org.
On Saturday, Oct. 11, during Fall Festival Weekend, the Ski Museum will display artifacts and old photographs from the Oxford County area at the Ski Depot on the Skiway Road in Newry. Members of the Ski Museum board of directors will be on hand to share conversation and Maine ski memories along with information about the history of the Museum. From Tree to Ski will also be playing, a newly adapted 1930s short film about ski-making at the Paris Ski Company, narrated by “Altitude” Lou McNally.
Sport Thoma Ski Shop of Bethel will host a fashion show at The Bethel Inn Resort on Friday, Nov. 28, to benefit the Ski Museum of Maine. The fashion show will feature vintage clothing from the 40’s to the 90’s as well as this season’s latest outerwear designs.
