Having been a Red Sox full season ticket holder since 1967, I just concluded my 48th consecutive year and have much to celebrate. Since ’67 — “The Impossible Dream ” year — I have had the advantage of watching the game from the first row of the left side of the field, i.e. the visitor’s side.

During Derek Jeter’s N.Y. Yankee career, my best guess is that I attended at least 50 games in which he was in the lineup.

Through the years, I was there in the first row and watched pregame interaction between Jeter and the kids who surrounded him. I routinely considered Jeter a positive influence for children, and I witnessed the gentlemanly human instinct that Jeter displayed.
