Free admission at State Museum

AUGUSTA — Scientists, artists, educators and industry professionals from around Maine will gather at the Maine State Museum from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, for the annual Maine Earth Science Day.

Visitors of all ages will find something to investigate in the museum-wide celebration of earth sciences.

Topics for exploration include minerals and gems, hydrology, meteorology and more.

Admission is free of charge all day. Teachers or parents bringing groups of students are urged to make reservations by completing a reservation form at

Masons plan open houses statewide

STATEWIDE — On Saturday, Oct. 18, the fraternal order of Free & Accepted Masons will hold a statewide open house in all of its lodges.

The public is invited to come visit if they would like to know more about Masonry, meet some local Masons and ask questions.

Scare ME 5K is Oct. 25

ROCKLAND — Go! Malawi’s last race of the 2014 Race Series is the Scare ME 5K to be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at Trackside Station, 4 Union St.

The nonprofit is continuing to raise funds for their education programs, which support orphans and other vulnerable children from Malawi.

This race has prizes, giveaways and a unique prize for the best costume. Walkers, runners and well-behaved dogs are welcome.
