LEWISTON — An American Red Cross Blood Drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17, at the Lewiston Armory.

Bean, spaghetti supper in Turner

TURNER — Nezinscot Lodge will host a bean hole bean/spaghetti supper to benefit Turner American Legion Post 111, on Weston Road, between 4 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18.

The cost is $6 for adults and $3 for children under 12.

Yard sale benefits Historical Museum

POLAND — A yard and moving sale to benefit the Poland Historical Museum, will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 18, and again Saturday, Oct. 25, on Route 26 at Poland Corner.

There will be a large variety of most holiday decorations, children’s books, framed pictures, cookbooks, speakers and sports equipment, including a large toboggan, skis, tennis rackets and golf clubs.

Multi-faith group to meet Oct. 19

LEWISTON — The Wellspring Multi-faith group will meet from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19, at The Center for Wisdom’s Women. Anyone of any faith background who is interested in crossing religious boundaries to build relationships and understanding is welcome to attend.

Wellspring Multi-faith is an offshoot from a similar Portland area group, and was formed locally in 2012 by Rabbi Hillel Katzir, formerly of Temple Shalom. The group has continued meeting since Katzir moved away. Rick Ness, a Presbyterian pastor in Wales, and Klara Tammany, a member of Trinity Episcopal Church in Lewiston, are serving as the new co-chairs of the group.

Wellspring Multi-faith Lewiston/Auburn currently meets monthly for the purposes of sharing and learning, caring and serving others and has a mission statement of “Loving God, Loving Neighbors: Learning and Serving Together.” In addition to regular meetings, the group also identifies local service projects to support together.

Auburn Art Club to meet Oct. 20

AUBURN — The Auburn Art Club will meet at 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, at the United Methodist Church on Park Avenue.

The speaker will be Elaine Markas. She will focus on a two-week trip she took this past summer to Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia. These three Baltic countries liberated themselves from Soviet control a little more than two decades ago and have blossomed into the hidden jewels of Europe.

She will speak about the tragic, but heroic story of these three countries and show photos that celebrate and demonstrate their remarkable resilience. She will also share photos taken in the lovely city of Helsinki, Finland.

President Stephanie Upton will conduct a brief business meeting, then turn the meeting over to the committee for this meeting: Sue Morgan, chairman, assisted by Bonnie Ross and Lula Farrington. All members are encouraged to attend.

Garden Club program: floral arranging

!MONMOUTH — The Monmouth Garden Club will meet at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 20, in the basement of Custom Hall.

“How To Develop A ‘Themed’ Floral Arrangement” will be the topic of Valerie Dawes, master floral designer. She will discuss entering a bouquet in a floral design show, which can be both exhilarating and intimidating.

She will examine developing an assigned theme; container and staging choices, flowers and materials and design techniques.

The public is invited.

Disabled veterans meet Oct. 21

LEWISTON — Disabled American Veterans Chapter 11 will hold its monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 21, at Memorial Armory, 65 Central Ave.

The meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month, except June, July and August.

Members are invited to bring a fellow vet or family member guest.

Five-week class on financial stability

LEWISTON — Maine Centers for Women, Work, and Community is offering a free five-week “My Money Works: Tools for Smart Money Choices” at their Lewiston Center at USM LAC, Westminster Street, on Wednesdays, Oct. 22 and 29, and Nov. 5, 12 and 19, from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Are you ready to become more comfortable and confident with money? This 15-hour class can help you gain the skills and confidence you need to stretch your money, pay your bills, reduce your debt, find money for savings and set personal financial goals. At the end of the class you will have a plan in place to achieve greater financial stability. A follow-up session is scheduled to provide additional networking and support.

Items sought for food pantry

AUBURN — The Auburn United Methodist Church is requesting the following items that are needed on a weekly basis at the High Street Food Pantry: peanut butter, toilet paper and pasta sauce.

Items can be dropped off at the church office at 439 Park Ave.
