1933 – 2014

BRIDGTON — James E. “Blackie” Blaquiere, 81, of Oxford, died Monday, Oct. 13, at Bridgton Hospital.

Blackie was born in Norway on April 8, 1933, a son of Arsene and J. Alice (Hadley) Blaquiere. He was educated in the Norway school system.

He married Patricia M. Davis on March 15, 1954. They were married for 51 years, before Patricia passed away on Dec. 24, 2005.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army and retired after 20 years of service. After his service, he worked at Wilner’s and for several construction companies throughout Western Maine. He also volunteered for the Oxford Fire Department for many years.

His hobbies were storytelling, his cats — especially “Blackie Jr.,” listening to country music and collecting old bottles, hub caps, Native American items and many motorcycles.

He is survived by six daughters, Debra J. Blaquiere of Chelsea, Sally J. May and husband, Rick, of Oxford, Brenda J. Sawyer of Oxford, Linda J. Cary and husband, Paul, of Bryant Pond, Sandra J. Washer and husband, Fred, of Norway and Christine J. Gammon and fiance, Bo, of West Paris; five sons, Tom A. Blaquiere of Minot, George A. Blaquiere of Mechanic Falls, Charles A. Blaquiere and wife, Liz, of Norway, Timothy E. Blaquiere of Mechanic Falls and Mark A. Blaquiere and wife, Stacy, of Oxford; 14 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his older brother, Arsene, of Brunswick; and many nieces and nephews.

James was predeceased by his parents; wife, Patricia; sisters, Pauline, Frances, Louise and Edith; and brothers, Thomas and Joseph “Billie” Blaquiere.
