1926 – 2014

AUBURN — Elizabeth M. Yeaton, 87, of Auburn, died Sunday, Oct. 12, at her daughter’s home, following a period of declining health.

She was born in Lewiston on Dec. 17, 1926, the daughter of the late Frederick and Mary Chippendale Yeaton. She was educated in Auburn schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in 1944. She then graduated from Gorham State Teacher’s College and attained her master’s degree from the University of Maine.

Betty taught elementary school at Stevens Mill and Fairview schools for 38 years. She was a devout Catholic and a member of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish at Sacred Heart Church.

Betty spent many enjoyable summers at her cottage at Bailey Island. She was an avid reader and also enjoyed knitting many items for family members.

She felt fortunate to be able to travel with her family to Hungary, Prague, England and Ireland. Her happiest moments were spending time with her family, especially birthdays and holidays.

Betty is survived by a daughter, Ann Verrill and husband, Thomas, of Auburn; four granddaughters, Amy (Todd) Spencer, Mary (Matthew) Poulin, Betsy (Richard) Bullock and Jane Verrill; and six great-grandchildren, Stella and Jack Spencer, Ben, Emily and Andrew Poulin and Lena Bullock. She is also survived by her constant companion and beloved dog, Katie.
