AUGUSTA — Longtime Wayne resident Peter Ault, who has served his community in various positions for more than 49 years, received the Ethel Kelley Memorial Award at Maine Municipal Association’s 78th Annual Convention earlier this month. The Ethel Kelley Award recognizes distinguished community service and is considered MMA’s most prestigious annual award.
Ault has held many local positions through the years, including a 45-year run (1965-2010) as a member of the Cary Memorial Library Board of Trustees. Among the other positions Ault has held: member of the Board of Selectmen (four years); member of the Memorial Day Parade Committee (40 years); Budget Committee member (10 years); Conservation Committee member (22 years); Historical Committee member (19 years); Planning Board member (four years); Androscoggin Lake Improvement Corp. board member (19 years); and, town treasurer (11 years).
Add that together and, in various ways and on various boards, Ault has more than 150 “years” of municipal and community experience. He has served on one community board or another in Wayne for 49 consecutive years, from 1965 to 2014.
While accepting the award, Ault was surrounded by supporters, including his family and close associates from the town of Wayne.
