On Nov. 4, I will vote to re-elect Sen. John Cleveland, who is one of the best state Senators District 20 has ever had.

He and I both grew up in Auburn. We are businessmen and have both served as mayor, Senator, library trustee and in other civic positions. I know he is an effective and active state Senator who makes significant differences for Auburn, Minot, Poland, Mechanic Falls and New Gloucester residents.

As co-chair of the Legislature’s Energy Committee, he was responsible for creation and passage of Maine’s new energy law, passed with bipartisan support in the House and Senate. People familiar with this legislation recognize and praise his leadership.

Residents of District 20 are fortunate to have John Cleveland’s legislative skills and experience, and it would be unwise to replace him with an inexperienced and unskilled opponent.

Richard Trafton, Auburn
