AUBURN — Gabby Foy of Wilton scored 17 points to pace Central Maine Community College to a 101-37 victory over Quinsigamond Community College in women’s basketball action Saturday.
Malia Hamel scored 15 points off the bench, while Kat Sytles and Macy Welch tallied 12 and 10 points, respectively.
The Mustangs (2-1) applied pressure defense and forced 66 turnovers. Corrie Kinder swiped a game-high six steals, while Ella Montminy and Lexi Larson had five takeaways each.
Men’s basketball
CMCC 101, Quinsigamond 76
AUBURN — Jeremy Sureo led Central Maine Community College with 17 points as the Mustangs thumped Quinsigamond 101-76 in men’s basektball action Saturday.
The Mustangs (3-1) spent 40 minutes of full-court pressure, using all 17 players to force 37 Quinsigamond turnovers. They dished out 24 assists and shot 45 percent for the game.
Cararington Miller notched a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, while Kazre Cummings chipped in with 15 points in one half of play for the Mustangs.
Football
Tufts 28, Colby 7
WATERVILLE — Senior wide receiver Greg Lanzillo had three touchdown catches to lead Tufts University to a 28-7 victory over Colby College in football action Saturday.
The Jumbos took a 28-0 lead on their first possession of the third quarter, going 71 yards in eight plays. Alex Snyder went 27 yards to Lanzillo for the third score.
The Mules (1-6) finally got their offense moving with a Luke Duncklee 41-yard kickoff return to the Tufts 45 in the third quarter.
Following two passes and a pass interference penalty for a first down on the two-yard line, Duncklee drove the ball off the right side to put Colby on the board.
Women’s cross country
Bates finishes sixth
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Senior Elena Jay and sophomore Jessica Wilson placed 29th and 30th, respectively, leading a closely grouped Bates women’s cross country team to sixth place among 11 teams Saturday at the NESCAC Championships.
Jay covered Middlebury’s 6-kilometer women’s course in 23:55.7, 29th fastest among 121 individuals overall. Wilson was 1.4 seconds behind in 23:57.1 for 30th place.
Senior Erica Gagnon, sophomore Milly Chisholm and first-year Katherine Cook were 38th, 39th and 44th, respectively. The Bobcats’ displacers were junior Isabelle Unger in 49th place and junior Addie Cullenberg in 50th.
Men’s cross country
Bates finishes seventh
MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — Junior Allen Sumrall led a tight pack of Bobcats as the No. 25 nationally ranked Bates men’s cross country team took seventh place out of 11 teams Saturday at the NESCAC Championships.
Sumrall covered Middlebury’s 8-kilometer men’s course in 26:12.3, good for 26th place among 121 individuals. Senior captain John Stansel was close behind in 31st in 26:14.7, followed closely by first-year Zach Magin in 34th.
Senior Michael Creedon finished in 38th and junior Taylor Saucier in 51st place. The Bobcats’ displacers were sophomore Even Ferguson-Hull in 61st and first-year Ben Tonelli in 65th.
