AUBURN — A Leeds man pleaded not guilty Friday to a string of charges stemming from an August feud with his neighbors in Greene.

Bud Madrid Roddy, 40, of 21 Country View Lane was arraigned in Androscoggin County Superior Court on four felony charges, including reckless conduct with a dangerous weapon and attempted assault.

Police arrested Roddy on Wednesday at his home just hours after a grand jury indicted him on an additional charge of felony failure to appear in court. Each of the felonies is punishable by up to five years in prison.

He also is charged with five misdemeanors.

He was free on $1,000 cash bail when he failed to appear in court. Justice William Stokes set new bail at $1,000, plus a supervision contract, or $2,000 cash with no supervision.

Stokes said he was concerned about Roddy’s earlier court absence.

Assistant District Attorney Lisa Bogue said Roddy had several prior convictions, including for assault and drugs.

Defense Attorney George Hess said his client provides for his family working construction and can’t afford to stay behind bars nor the $5,000 bail that was sought by prosecutors.

Roddy suffers from nerve pain from a car crash and isn’t able to access his prescribed medication in jail, Hess said. His client missed his court date because he became confused.

Hess said the case is likely to go to trial due to the disputed facts surrounding the circumstances of the incident.

Roddy was arrested Aug. 25 after a fight between his family and a neighbor’s family in Greene. During the fight, Roddy reportedly went home and returned with a gun, according to police. He ran home again, then fled into nearby woods and was arrested after authorities spotted him with night-vision glasses.

Police said Roddy was wielding a gun and a baseball bat.
