JAY — Acting police Chief Richard Caton IV of Wilton is acting no more.
Selectpersons unanimously voted to confirm his appointment as chief of the Jay Police Department on Monday night.
Caton, 33, accepted the position when Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere offered it to him in late October.
The board just needed to confirm the appointment.
Caton will be paid $58,000 a year.
Caton, a detective, has been acting chief since February, when the late police Chief Larry White Sr. went on medical leave to undergo pancreatic cancer treatment. White lost his battle with cancer Oct. 5.
