On Friday afternoon, some 30 volunteers gathered assembly-line style at the Praise Assembly of God Church to put together 88 Thanksgiving baskets before delivering them in the community the following morning.
There’s a lot of work involved, both in gathering the food and then putting the baskets together, but the church is very good at it due to quite a bit of practice — 12 years of it, as a matter of fact. On Saturday morning, the baskets, which include canned vegetables, gravy, stuffing and cranberry sauce to go with the turkey, were delivered primarily to Rumford families who are served by the church’s food pantry.
The food pantry at the Congress Street church is open from 9 a.m. to noon Tuesdays through Thursdays.
