100 years ago, 1914
The Ladles’ Auxiliary of Clan Campbell, Lewiston, is doing its share to relieve suffering among the European war victims. In the month of October they forwarded 12 pair of home-knit socks, 15 pair of wristers, several mufflers and $15 in cash. During November they have sent 12 pair of socks, 18 pair of wristers and eight mufflers. Several of the women are now engaged in knitting helmets for the soldiers. The auxiliary plans to send as many of these articles as possible each month.

50 years ago, 1964
All Auburn firemen on duty on Thanksgiving Day, were given two hours at home to enjoy their holiday turkey. Fire Chief J. Coleman Miller said some switching around of personnel was necessary but that the highest number of men off duty at one time was three, and they could have returned to duty immediately on the receipt of an alarm. Firemen received their off-duty time during the day in a series of two hour periods starting at 7 a.m. and ending at 9 p.m.

25 years ago, 1989
Members of the Greene Bicentennial Committee, Selectman Barbara Bubier and interested townspeople gathered here at the town office Sunday afternoon to watch Committee Chairman Jim Weston bury a time capsule containing bicentennial souvenirs and other memorabilia from the August 1988 celebration. “It is the time to put the bicentennial to rest,” Weston said. “Lets take an opportunity to remember the good times. I think we had the best fire works show I’ve ever seen, and our parade had over 100 entries.”
