WEST PARIS — Ralph Verner Niemi, 87, of South Paris, died Sunday, Nov. 30 at Ledgeview Living Center.
He was born on July 27, 1927, to Hannes and Hilja Niemi in New York City, N.Y. A graduate of the University of Maine at Orono, he proudly served his country in the armed forces. He touched many young lives through his love of education. Ralph was an avid golfer and snowmobiler. He hiked many miles over the years.
He met and married Sylvia Winslow in 1955.
He is survived by his three children, Michael and his wife, Nancy, of South Paris, Roxanne and Mark Cyr of Enfield, N.H., and Alison Murch of Corinth; grandchildren, Raymond Niemi, Elizabeth Burnham, Justin Onofrio, Miranda Murch, Nicholas Handville and Cortney Bogges. Ralph is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife, Sylvia.
