SACO — A private school is on lockdown after its students were dismissed in response to a phone threat.

Thornton Academy in Saco is being secured by police. The school announced via its Twitter account that students are safe, and the threat does not appear credible, but dismissal was necessary as a precautionary measure. The school also said students waiting for rides home were in the school’s auditorium.

Thornton Academy is a co-ed, 1,500-student boarding and day school that serves grades 6 through 12.
