LEWISTON — The Franco Center will host its first of the year session of “French for Teen” classes Jan. 8.
The once a month get-together consists in a 90-minute session running from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Subsequent classes will be held on the second Thursday of every month until May. A full schedule of classes will be available by contacting The Franco Center.
The intention is to provide an opportunity for teens to do some activities in French that give them a basic knowledge of the language as well as some of the local Franco-American and other French-speaking cultures.
The Maine French Heritage Language Program curriculum is used as one of the support for the activities offered. The MFHLP curriculum provides quality fun by offering a wide range of activities based in culture. Interactive games, word-play, music and songs, as well as movies are major components of this session.
The course is be taught by Jacynthe Jacques, a native of Quebec who has lived in the Lewiston area for almost 20 years.
In keeping with The Franco Center and MFHLP’s commitment to bring quality fun to as many young people as possible, classes are offered for free through grants from the French American Cultural Exchange and the French Heritage Language Program.
