BRIDGTON — Fire destroyed a home Monday night on Forest Avenue.

At around 7:30 p.m., fire crews from Bridgton, Paris, West Paris, Sebago, Waterford and Harrison scrambled to the fire at 39 Forest Ave.

According to neighbor Susan Rivet, the home belongs to David and Deborah Martin. Rivet said she was with the Martins when the fire broke out.

Bridgton Deputy Chief Corin Meehan said the 2½-story wood structure was burning when firefighters arrived. The blaze was first called in as a car on fire in a garage. The fire was reported about 7:50 p.m., he said.

Rivet said a car was being worked on in the garage when the vehicle caught fire. The resulting fire “blew the roof off the garage.” Rivet said the house is “gone.”

The two adults and two children made it out of the house and garage safely, Rivet said, but the family cat was believed to still be inside.

Meehan said the fire, which is still under investigation, was under control around 9:30 p.m., and there were no injuries.
