BANGOR — A former River Valley resident was struck by a vehicle on Hammond Street on Monday night and remained in serious condition on Tuesday, police said.
Timothy Gotto, 55, has been staying in the Bangor area, police Sgt. Tim Cotton said late Tuesday afternoon. Gotto is being treated at Eastern Maine Medical Center.
He was struck in the area of 1105 Hammond St., Cotton said.
The operator of the vehicle, Desiree Pond, 27, of Hermon, was not injured in the accident, according to Cotton.
Bangor Police Department’s accident reconstruction team and the Criminal Investigation Division are investigating the incident.
Gotto grew up in Mexico and transferred to Rumford High School in 1978, where he won state championships in wrestling, according to newspaper accounts. He posted a 38-0 record and won the New England Wrestling Championship that year.
He has a lengthy criminal history, including multiple OUI convictions, assault convictions and a terrorizing conviction for threatening to kill a deputy sheriff in 2004, according to law enforcement records.
