RUMFORD — Selectmen on Thursday will continue discussion of recommendations to reconstruct downtown sidewalks.

Their meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at the Rumford Falls Auditorium.

In 2014, selectmen voted 3-1 to forgo a bid process and hire Main-Land Development Consultants Inc. of Livermore Falls and its design team, Terrence J. DeWan and Associates of Yarmouth, to develop engineering plans to revitalize the downtown. The work included an estimate for better sidewalks.

The first two phases of the work were estimated at $41,900 total.

Jennifer Kreckel, president of the economic development group Envision Rumford, said the town Sidewalk Committee created a list of recommendations. They included constructing a parking area and new sidewalks at the American Legion Hall and along Lowell Street, an improved intersection at Congress and Portland streets and a new sidewalk along Portland Street at Rite Aid.

The committee also sought answers to several questions, including the costs and life expectancy of replacing the Town Hall steps with granite or concrete.
