LEWISTON — A local man was hospitalized Friday night after he was struck by a car while walking on Lisbon Street.

Police said the man appeared to have suffered bruised ribs and possibly a broken jaw after he was struck at about 7 p.m. on Lisbon Street near Androscoggin Avenue.

Witnesses reported seeing the man sprawled in the street after he was struck, saying the victim was in pain but speaking coherently. The driver of the car that struck him stopped at the scene and ran to the victim’s aid, as did several others who had been driving by, witnesses said.

Police blocked a section of Lisbon Street for about an hour as the victim was treated and an investigation began. The names of those involved were not immediately available.

No one was charged in the accident, and the victim’s injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.
